Job Posting: Manager of Accounting and Budget / Payroll Specialist
Location: White Swan, WA
Employment Type: Full-Time (260 days)

Reports To: Executive Director of Business and Operations
Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Position Summary:
Mount Adams School District is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized professional to join our finance team. This position plays a critical role in executing complex payroll processes, assist in budget development, financial reporting, fiscal compliance, regular analysis, reconciliation, and communication. The ideal candidate is proactive, professional, detail oriented and has the able to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond internal/external inquiries regarding payroll and accounting.
Monitor and implement all required updates to payroll and accounting procedures.
Manage entry of annual payroll employment contracts.
Supervise up to two direct reports.
Review and approval all purchase orders and other requests for purchase for budget sufficiency.
Manage district-wide cash and investments.
Reconcile cash deposit packets and manage weekly deposits to the County Treasurer’s office.
Work closely with the Human Resources Department on related subjects.
Reconcile District the general ledger and other financial records to the County Treasurer, bank statements etc.
Accurately record all accounting journal entries.
Conduct regular financial analysis, projections, and budget tracking.
Prepare and present monthly budget reports to the School Board.
Hold monthly budget status meetings with applicable program managers/administrators.
Prepare and deliver presentations as requested regarding the District’s budget financial position.
Perform account receivable invoicing.
Submitting all regular grant claims for reimbursement.
Process complex payroll including employee changes, garnishments, vendor reporting, and compliance.
Review all account payable check runs for accuracy.
Respond to data requests and assist program managers with budget support.
Prepare and file quarterly payroll and tax reports to maintain compliance.
Create and submit enrollment and revenue projections (F-203).
Assist in budget development (F-195)
Assist in financial statement reporting (F-196, Notes to FS and SEFA).
Coordinate and prepare audit documentation and communication.
Participate in collective bargaining and labor-related financial analysis.
Train staff in proper cash handling procedures and oversee cash management processes.
Prepare and file W2s annually.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
Minimum 3 years of professional experience in accounting, payroll, or public sector finance.
Strong knowledge of payroll systems, budget cycles, and financial reporting.
High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and financial software systems.
Preferred:
Experience in government or public education finance.
Familiarity with F-195, F-196, and F-203 state financial reporting processes.
Supervisory experience.
Knowledge of grant management and audit processes.
Previous training/success working in the “Qmlativ” school data system
Work Environment:
This role involves regular interaction with staff, external auditors, and budget stakeholders. The position may require occasional evening meetings (e.g., board meetings) and tight deadlines during budget cycles and reporting periods.
