
Description
The financial aid counselor has the responsibility for providing financial aid advising and counseling to students and parents for the main campus and the Frederick campus regarding financial aid packages and additional options for funding. The financial aid counselor will work with students who are identified as qualified for the Maryland State Educational Assistance Grant to assist them with the application process. The financial aid counselor will conduct outreach and review requests for professional judgment and will assist with federal verification of student financial aid files.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists students and parents in completion of FAFSA and other financial aid forms
- Counsels and advises students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, financial aid programs and costs.
- Assist with outreach to students identified as qualified for the Howard P. Rawlings Guaranteed Access Grant.
- Complete federal verification and awarding of financial aid funds in compliance with respective policies and procedures.
- Conduct outreach and review requests for professional judgement.
- Assists with report generation from PowerFAIDS financial aid system.
- Provides assistance to students with questions regarding Special Condition circumstances.
- Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of Title IV financial aid programs.
- Provide support for financial aid outreach activities for the main campus and Frederick campus events.
- Provide assistance with awarding and packaging of Frederick campus graduate and undergraduate students
- Responsible for updating of outside scholarships information on website

POSITION AUTHORITY:
The Financial Aid Counselor reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid who is responsible to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications.
Requirements
Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of experience in the administration of financial aid. Experience in awarding institutional and Federal financial aid. Knowledge of Title IV federal financial aid regulations. Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite (excel, word, powerpoint) and experience with financial aid software programs, with preferences towards PowerFaids, Edexpress and EdConnect. The position requires a great deal of contact with the public and the ability to get along well with all types of people.
